No Immediate Threat Assessed from Reported North Korea Missile Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today.

COVID-19 Test Results: 49 New Cases

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 49 new cases of COVID-19 from 525 specimens analyzed on March 21, 2022. Nine of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 46,942 officially reported cases, 340 deaths, 1,299 cases in active isolation, and 45,303 not in active isolation.

COVID-19 Test Results: 84 New Cases

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 84 new cases of COVID-19 from 565 specimens analyzed on March 21, 2022. 13 of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 46,893 officially reported cases, 340 deaths, 1,255 cases in active isolation, and 45,298 not in active isolation.

Early Morning Earthquake Recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 that struck 115 km S of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 10.0 km, at 12:56 a.m. (ChST). 

There were no reports made to Guam 911 dispatch of damages or injuries from the earthquake and there was no tsunami threat to the Marianas.

One COVID-19-related Fatality Reported; COVID-19-Related Fatalities Adjusted

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 340th COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Regional Medical City on March 19, 2022. The patient was an 85-year-old female, fully vaccinated without a booster, with underlying health conditions and tested positive on March 19.

Red Flag Warning in Effect for Guam; Refrain from Outdoor Burning

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has issued a red flag warning for Guam, in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday. The previously issued Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. A red flag warning means critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph are expected through this afternoon.

Preliminary COVID-19 Test Results: Seven New Cases

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported a preliminary case count of seven new cases of COVID-19 from eight specimens analyzed on March 19, 2022. Additional results are pending analysis and submission from other clinics and will be reported on Monday, March 21, 2022. To date, there have been a total of 46,730 officially reported cases, 341 deaths, 1,177 cases in active isolation, and 45,212 not in active isolation.
