The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the National Earthquake Technical Assistance Program (NETAP), will host two virtual training opportunities:
- Wednesday, April 27, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Safer, Stringer, Smarter: A Guide to Improving School Natural Hazard Safety (FEMA P-1000)
- This free web-based training provides information on how to physically protect school facilities and operations before, during, and after a natural hazard event. It also provides guidance for developing a comprehensive strategy to address natural hazard safety in schools.
- The target audience for the course include school officials, emergency management personnel, citizen/community volunteers, fire services, governmental administrative, emergency medical services, school administrators, school boards, and teacher union leaders.

- Thursday, May 5, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Earthquake Safety and Mitigation for Schools (FEMA 395)
- This free web-based training teaches participants how to: (1) assess and analyze seismic risks typical to school buildings; (2) develop actionable plans for reducing and managing these risks; (3) secure nonstructural components in school facilities; and (4) implement incremental seismic rehabilitation as an affordable approach for protecting existing school buildings and ensuring occupant safety.
- The target audience for this course are school officials, citizen/community volunteers, emergency management, fire services, governmental administrative, emergency medical services, healthcare, school administrators, teachers, engineers, safety and security, public health, public works, and search and rescue.
