JIC RELEASE NO. 1019 - COVID-19 Test Results: 32 New Cases, 13 Hospitalized; Food Commodities Distribution Continues April 13; 10 Cases with Variants of Concern Identified; Mangilao mAb Treatment Center to Close on Thursday

COVID-19 Test Results: 32 New Cases Reported

Today, DPHSS reported 32 new cases of COVID-19 from 524 specimens analyzed on April 11, 2022. 11 of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 47,631 officially reported cases, 352 deaths, 221 cases in active isolation, and 47,058 not in active isolation.

Heavy Showers and Gusty Winds Occurring; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office advised heavy showers and gusty winds are expected arriving first to southern Guam and southwestern Guam and likely moving up the island. Strong gusty winds are expected upon approach.

Expect a torrential gusty downpour. The community is advised to use caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.

The following advisories remain in place for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan:   

Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain; NWS Advisories in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Tropical Storm Malakas as it continues moving northwest.

As of 7 a.m., the system was located near latitude 12.2 degrees north and longitude 136.6 degrees east, about 210 miles north-northwest of Yap and 555 miles west of Guam. It is currently moving west-northwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. Malakas is expected to head out to the northwest into the Philippine Sea today and tonight.

Wind Advisory Remains in Effect for the Marianas; Practice Caution on the Roadways and Remain Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Tropical Storm Malakas as it continues moving northwest.

As of 1 p.m., the system was located near latitude 12.0 degrees north and longitude 139.7 degrees east, about 145 miles north of Ulithi in Yap State and 355 miles west-southwest of Guam. It is currently moving northwest at 29 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph.

Preliminary COVID-19 Test Results: 12 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported a preliminary case count of 12 new cases of COVID-19 from 99 specimens analyzed on April 9, 2022. To date, there have been a total of 47,565 officially reported cases, 352 deaths, 329 cases in active isolation, and 46,884 not in active isolation.

 

Seven Hospitalized for COVID-19

Tropical Storm Malakas Passing Fais in Yap State; Gusty Winds Prevail Across the Marianas

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Tropical Storm Malakas as it passes near Fais in Yap State.

As of 7 a.m., the system was located near latitude 10.1 degrees north and longitude 141.5 degrees east, about 70 miles east-northeast of Fais in Yap State and 320 miles southwest of Guam. It is currently moving northwest at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph. Malakas is expected to pass Fais and Ulithi in Yap State this morning and make its closest point of approach to Yap this afternoon or evening.

Preliminary COVID-19 Test Results: 12 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported a preliminary case count of 12 new cases of COVID-19 from 188 specimens analyzed on April 8, 2022. To date, there have been a total of 47,553 officially reported cases, 352 deaths, 317 cases in active isolation, and 46,884 not in active isolation.

COVID-19 Test Results: 27 New Cases Reported

Today, DPHSS reported 27 new cases of COVID-19 from 389 specimens analyzed on April 7, 2022. Seven of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 47,541 officially reported cases, 352 deaths, 305 cases in active isolation, and 46,884 not in active isolation.
