No Immediate Threat Assessed from Reported North Korea Missile Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today.

GHS/OCD and MRFC Recommend Strengthened Cybersecurity for Organizations

In light of the Russian incursion into Ukraine and informed by the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) counterparts and other key partners, the Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) recommends organizations in Guam consider strengthening their cybersecurity postures to mitigate possible cyber-attacks.

331st COVID-19-related Fatality Reported 

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 331st COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on March 2, 2022. The patient was a 65-year-old female, fully vaccinated with a booster, with underlying health conditions who tested positive on March 2.

Earthquake Recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 that struck 128 km SSW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 10.0 km, at 9:54 a.m. (ChST). 

There were no reports made to Guam 911 dispatch of damages or injuries from the earthquake and there was no tsunami threat to the Marianas.

Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported 

The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) Chief Medical Officer and Territorial Epidemiologist, in coordination with the Acting Chief Medical Examiner, have been conducting a review of all possible COVID-19-related deaths. This coordinated review process has resulted in the classification of one death reported from 2021 as COVID-19-related and has brought Guam’s current COVID-19-related death count to 330. The two (2) COVID-19-related fatalities follow:

Six COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported from February 23-27

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of six (6) COVID-19-related fatalities:

  • The 323rd COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on February 23, 2022. The patient was a 74-year-old female, fully vaccinated with a booster, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on February 11.
