Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport Authority until 6 p.m. this evening. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport.

Be alert and take precautions as required. These storms have been producing occasional lightning. If outdoors, seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued an urban and small stream flood advisory, in effect until 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. Heavy rain from thunderstorms will cause flooding. Between 1 and 1.4 inches of rain have already fallen. Additional rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected over the area. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas are expected over roadways.

377th COVID-19-related Fatality Reported

The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 377th COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Guam on July 13, 2022. The patient was a 14-year-old male, fully vaccinated without a booster, with underlying health conditions who tested positive on July 13.

COVID-19 Test Results: 148 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 148 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,478 specimens collected July 18, 2022. Twenty-six (26) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 54,013 officially reported cases, 376 deaths, 939 cases in active isolation, and 52,698 not in active isolation.

JIC RELEASE NO. 1093 - Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 264 New Cases, 19 Hospitalized; COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Sites Closed July 21-22; Additional COVID-19 Updates

Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 264 New Cases Reported 

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 264 new cases of COVID-19 from 3,731 specimens analyzed from tests administered July 15 – 17, 2022:

  • July 18: 43 of 1,091 test positive for COVID-19

  • July 17: 126 of 962 test positive for COVID-19

  • July 16: 95 of 1,678 test positive for COVID-19

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 10 a.m. this morning. Thunderstorms are occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to be alert and take precautions as required. Practice caution on the roadways, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, remain indoors.

JIC RELEASE NO. 1092 - Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported; COVID-19 Test Results: 142 New Cases, 14 Hospitalized; Additional COVID-19 Updates

Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported

The Joint Information Center was notified of two (2) COVID-19-related fatalities:

  • The 375th COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on June 30, 2022. The patient was a 41-year-old female, unvaccinated with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on June 30. 

AHAWS Siren From Agana Heights Not Connected to Emergency

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) are aware of the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) siren located at the GHS/OCD office in Agana Heights sounding of the siren this morning and continuing.

The Agana Heights AHAWS siren is NOT connected with any emergency situation and assessments are being made on the system. Future tests of the AHAWS sirens will be conducted on a monthly basis and will typically fall on the first Tuesday of each month, unless it falls on an observed holiday.

The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 374th COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Guam on July 13, 2022. The patient was a 54-year-old female, fully vaccinated with one booster, who tested positive on July 13.
