JIC RELEASE NO. 1114 - COVID-19 Test Results: 127 New Cases, 22 Hospitalized; Three COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported; Additional COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 Test Results: 127 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 127 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,960 specimens collected August 16, 2022. Eight (8) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 57,040 officially reported cases, 390 deaths, 707 cases in active isolation, and 55,943 not in active isolation.

Fast Moving Showers and Gusty Winds Expected

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a special weather statement for Guam. A line of fast moving showers, with wind gusts in excess of 30 mph, will impact portions of Guam through 5:30 p.m.

Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Some locations that will experience impact include Dededo, Tamuning, Yigo, Mangilao, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Barrigada, Yona, Hagatna Heights, Andersen AFB, Talofofo, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Inarajan, Asan, Merizo, Piti, Santa Rita, and Umatac.

Flood Advisory in Effect for Guam; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 2:15 p.m. this afternoon. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between 0.4 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches is expected.

Heavy rain from thunderstorms and overflowing poor drainage areas will cause minor flooding.

COVID-19 Test Results: 109 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 109 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,072 specimens collected August 15, 2022. Fifteen (15) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 56,913 officially reported cases, 387 deaths, 658 cases in active isolation, and 55,868 not in active isolation.

Practice Caution in Heavy Showers Through the Afternoon

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a short term forecast for Guam and Guam coastal waters. Through 5 p.m., a series of westward-moving heavy showers and a few thunderstorms will bring up to an inch-and-a-half of rainfall across much of central and northern Guam and nearby coastal waters. Some of these heavy showers could be accompanied by lightning.

If outside or in a boat, seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard. If driving, be alert for sudden downpours and water ponding on the roads.

JIC RELEASE NO. 1112 - Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 179 New Cases, 26 Hospitalized; 386th COVID-19-related Fatality Reported; Additional COVID-19 Updates

Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 179 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 179 new cases of COVID-19 from 3,808 specimens analyzed from tests administered August 13 – 15, 2022:

  • August 15: 22 of 746 test positive for COVID-19

  • August 14: 96 of 1,611 test positive for COVID-19

  • August 13: 61 of 1,451 test positive for COVID-19

Showers and Gusty Winds Expected for Mariners; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a marine weather statement for Guam coastal waters. A line of heavy showers, and possibly a few thunderstorms, are over shore waters east of Guam, moving west at 15 to 20 knots. This line of showers and storms is capable of producing wind gusts near 30 knots, and will likely move to waters west of Guam by this afternoon.

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes.

JIC RELEASE NO. 1111 - Special Vaccination Clinic for Children 6 Months to 11 Years Available Tomorrow; COVID-19 Test Results: 175 New Cases, 23 Hospitalized; Additional COVID-19 Updates

Special Vaccination Clinic for Children 6 Months to 11 Years Available TOMORROW

DPHSS will hold a special COVID-19 vaccination clinic for all eligible children, 6 months to 11 years only, at the Agana Shopping Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. Last sign-in is at 2:30 p.m. Pediatricians will be available at the children’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic to answer questions from parents/guardians.

 

COVID-19 Test Results: 175 New Cases Reported

Wetter Weather Possible Next Week; Be Alert for Additional Advisories

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office is monitoring for a series of possible disturbances that could bring heavy rain to Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan from Monday, August 15 to Friday, August 19, 2022.  

 NWS provided a hydrologic outlook for Guam. Sufficient heavy rain could cause urban and small stream flooding. Rainfall amounts of up to six (6) inches are possible, although many areas will get less.

JIC RELEASE NO. 1109 - COVID-19 Test Results: 141 New Cases, 24 Hospitalized; Additional COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 Test Results: 141 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 141 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,402 specimens collected August 9, 2022. Fourteen (14) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 56,367 officially reported cases, 384 deaths, 1,351 cases in active isolation, and 54,632 not in active isolation.
