Flood Advisory in Effect for Guam; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 10:30 a.m. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between one and three inches of rain has fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of one to three inches is expected.

Heavy rain from thunderstorms and overflowing poor drainage areas will cause minor flooding.

COVID-19 Test Results: 150 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 150 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,669 specimens collected July 25, 2022. Twelve (12) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 54,772 officially reported cases, 377 deaths, 830 cases in active isolation, and 53,565 not in active isolation.

Flood Advisory Remains in Effect; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 7:45 p.m. this evening. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

Heavy rain at Marine Corps Drive and Cross Island Road is causing minor flooding in those areas. Additional rainfall amounts of one and a half to two and a half inches are expected over the area.

Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 459 New Cases Reported July 21 – 25

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 459 new cases of COVID-19 from 6,755 specimens analyzed from tests administered July 20 – 24, 2022:

 
  • July 25: 38 of 1,136 test positive for COVID-19

  • July 24: 121 of 1,133 test positive for COVID-19

  • July 23: 91 of 1,557 test positive for COVID-19

  • July 22: 61 of 1,404 test positive for COVID-19

Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms Expected the Next Few Days;
Tropical Disturbance to pass through the Region


The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office advised a weak tropical disturbance will make its way across the region, bringing unsettled weather and gustier winds from variable directions the next few days. The heaviest showers are expected over Guam on Tuesday afternoon.

Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory for southwestern Guam, in effect until 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. Heavy rain near Merizo and Apra Harbor will cause minor flooding. One to three inches of rain occurred in the area in the last hour. Additional rainfall amounts of up to two inches are possible 

Some locations that will experience flooding include Yona, Talofofo, Inarajan, Asan, Merizo, Piti, Santa Rita, and Umatac.

GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, starting at 3:15 p.m. 

GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 12 a.m. Saturday morning. Thunderstorms are possible within 20 nautical miles of the airport.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to be alert and take precautions as required. Practice caution on the roadways, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, remain indoors.
