JIC RELEASE NO. 971 - 322nd COVID-19-related Fatality Reported; Governor Leon Guerrero Signs Executive Order No. 2022-04; COVID-19 Test Results: 275 New Cases, 36 Hospitalized

322nd COVID-19-related Fatality Reported

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 322nd COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) on February 25, 2022. The patient was a 71-year-old female, unvaccinated, with underlying health conditions who tested positive on February 25.

321st COVID-19-related Fatality Reported

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 321st COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on February 8, 2022. The patient was a 33-year-old male, fully vaccinated without a booster, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on February 8.

Red Flag Warning in Effect for Guam, Outdoor Burning is Not Recommended

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has issued a red flag warning for Guam, in effect through 7 p.m. this evening. Sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph are expected through the remainder of this afternoon and first part of this evening.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

JIC RELEASE NO. 969 - 320th COVID-19-related Fatality Reported; COVID-19 Test Results: 349 New Cases, 42 Hospitalized; No Symptoms Needed to Test for COVID-19

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 320th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Guam on February 23, 2022. The patient was an 82-year-old male, unvaccinated, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on February 9.

JIC RELEASE NO. 968 - Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported; COVID-19 Test Results: 393 New Cases, 42 Hospitalized; No Symptoms Needed to Test for COVID-19

Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of two (2) COVID-19-related fatalities:

  • The 318th COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on February 5, 2022. The patient was an 82-year-old male, unvaccinated, who tested positive on February 5.

Earthquake Recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 that struck 169 km S of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 10.0 km, at 9:09 p.m. (ChST). 

There were no reports made to Guam 911 dispatch of damages or injuries from the earthquake and there was no tsunami threat to the Marianas. 

Fire Weather Watch in Effect through Thursday Afternoon; Outdoor Burning is Not Recommended

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office advised strong daytime winds and dry conditions may lead to rapid fire spread across parts of Guam. A fire weather watch will be in effect for Guam from Tuesday morning through Thursday afternoon. A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.
