JIC RELEASE NO. 1140 - COVID-19 Test Results: 23 New Cases, Six Hospitalized; Additional COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 Test Results: 23 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 23 new cases of COVID-19 from 299 specimens collected September 22, 2022. Five (5) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 58,489 officially reported cases, 401 deaths, 159 cases in active isolation, and 57,929 not in active isolation.

Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory for Guam, in effect until 1 p.m. this afternoon. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring. Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas is expected. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be possible.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Chalan Pago-Ordot, Barrigada, Agana Heights, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Asan, and Piti.

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

Press Release - No Tsunami Threat to Marianas from Mexico Earthquake

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.8 that occurred 46 km SSW of Aguililla, Mexico, with a depth of 20.7 km, at 4:16 p.m. (ChST).

As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands at this time.

This will be the final statement issued by GHS/OCD unless additional information is received.

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport Authority until 12:15 p.m. this afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport.

Be alert and take precautions as required. If outdoors or boating, seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

Earthquake Recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 that struck 30 km NNE of Yigo Village, Guam, with a depth of 132.1 km, at 1:42 a.m. (ChST).

There were no damages or injuries reported from the nearby earthquake. There is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake.
