With the National Weather Service Guam (NWS) has issued a flash flood advisory for Guam due to heavy rainfall. The advisory is in effect until 6:00pm (ChST)Monday, August 20, 2018.
Floods – those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action.
Clear drainage areas and un-block clogged storm drains in your area to minimize the change of flooding.
Avoid walking or driving through flood water.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Saipan and Tinian. Damaging winds of 39 to 73 mph are possible in the next 36 to 48 hours.
There are no storm watches or warnings for Guam. The heavy rainfall we are seeing in Guam is due to monsoon weather; they have prompted a flash flood advisory.
Tropical Storm Cimaron (23W) currently centered about 480 miles east-northeast of Guam moving northwest at 8 mph with maximum winds at 45 mph.
The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 8.2, at 10:19 AM (ChST). The earthquake was reported at Latitude 18.17S and Longitude 178.111W with a depth of 563.4km in the Fiji Region.
As advised by the National Weather Service, Weather Forecast Office Guam, there is NO tsunami threat to Guam or the Marianas from the earthquake.
This will be the only statement issued unless additional information is received.
Tropical Storm Cimaron (23W) currently centered about 495 miles east-northeast of Guam moving west at 15 mph with maximum winds at 45 mph.
A Typhoon Warning is now in effect for Agrihan, Pagan and Alamagan. There are no watches or warnings for Guam.
TS Cimaron is expected to intensify in the next couple of days and become typhoon strength by Monday evening.
We will continue to monitor the storm as it maintains its general course and speed over the next 24 hours.
