No Tsunami Threat from Japan Earthquakes

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0, at 4:21 AM (ChST) and a 6.4 at 4:22 AM(CHsT).  The earthquake was reported about 252km or about 157 miles southeast of Iwo Jima, Japan.

As advised by the National Weather Service, Weather Forecast Office Guam, there is NO tsunami threat to Guam or the Marianas from the earthquake. 

This will be the only statement issued unless additional information is received. 

No Tsunami Threat from Tanaga Volcano, Alaska Earthquake

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6, at 7:56 AM (ChST).  The earthquake was reported 51.509N 178.077W with a depth of 31km on Andreanof Islands, Aleutian Islands, Alaska US.

As advised by the National Weather Service, Weather Forecast Office Guam, there is NO tsunami threat to Guam or the Marianas from the earthquake. 

This will be the only statement issued unless additional information is received. 

Tropical Disturbance South of Guam

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam has announced of a tropical disturbance (Invest Area 99W) located about 220 miles south-southwest of Guam.  99W will pass south of Guam tonight through Thursday morning heading in a general west direction. 

As of this news release, the disturbance is now the subject of a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center which means 99W could be upgraded to a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
