Flash Flood Watch in Effect through Sunday; Heavy Rainfall Expected through the Weekend

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flash flood watch, in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through late Sunday night.

NWS continues to monitor a circulation south of Guam, near 8 degrees north latitude and 147 degrees east longitude. It is expected to pass near Guam and bring periods of heavy showers and thunderstorms later today through Sunday night. Rainfall of 3 to 6 inches with locally higher amounts are possible through Sunday night.

Flood Advisory Issued for Guam; Practice Caution While Driving

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for poor drainage areas for Guam until 7:30 p.m.

Heavy showers are occurring across Guam, which will result in urban and small stream flooding. Overflowing poor drainage areas will cause minor flooding. Between 0.6 and one inch of rain has already fallen.  

Flooding of roads, low-lying areas and other poor-drainage areas is expected. The community is reminded to take the following precautionary actions:

Strong Thunderstorm Over Guam Coastal Waters; Boaters Advised to Seek Harbor

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a marine weather statement for Guam coastal waters. A strong thunderstorm, capable of producing winds to around 20 knots is located 9 nautical miles northwest of Apra Harbor and drifting west.

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 20 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. Intense lightning is occurring in this storm. If caught on the open water, stay below deck if possible and keep away from ungrounded metal objects.

223rd COVID-19-related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 223rd COVID-19 related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on October 15, 2021. The patient was a 68-year-old male, vaccinated, with underlying health conditions. He tested positive on October 6.
