Wind Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued an airport wind advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 7 p.m. this evening. Winds of 15 to 25 knots with gusts to 30 knots are possible.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to practice caution while traveling in windy conditions, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.

Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain; Inexperienced Swimmers Reminded to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor all activity in the region, including the developing tropical depression, JTWC Invest Area 96W. Current forecast tracks show the system passing between Yap and Palau between Monday and Tuesday.

For the Marianas, northeast winds and choppy seas are expected through this evening. The following NWS advisories remain in effect:

Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain; Inexperienced Swimmers Reminded to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor all activity in the region, including the circulation JTWC Invest Area 96W. As of this morning, the system was located near 6 degrees north latitude and 148 degrees east longitude. Current forecast tracks show the system heading west or west-southwest over the next day or two before heading more toward the west-northwest to pass near or just south of Yap Monday and Tuesday. 

Small Craft Advisory in Effect from Saturday through Tuesday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast issued a small craft advisory for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday through early Tuesday morning.

Seas are expected to build between 8 to 11 feet Saturday evening for Guam with winds increasing to 15 to 25 knots Sunday. Conditions will be hazardous to small craft. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in hazardous conditions.

JIC RELEASE NO. 885 - COVID-19 Booster Shots Expand to 16-17-Year-Olds

COVID-19 Booster Shot Eligibility Expands 
Today, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved the COVID-19 vaccine boosters for individuals ages 16 to 17 years old. Adolescents 16 and 17 years of age who received a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine (first two doses) are eligible for a single booster shot at least 6 months or more after their initial series. At this time, only the Pfizer-BioNTech booster vaccine is authorized and recommended for adolescents aged 16 and 17.
