Hazardous Surf Expected through this Morning; Inexperienced Swimmers Should Remain Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has extended the following advisories:
 

A high surf advisory has been extended for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 11 a.m. this morning. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet are expected for west facing reefs of the Marianas.  
 

Flood Advisory Issued for Guam; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for poor drainage areas for Guam until 12:30 a.m.

An area of heavy rain and thunderstorms just south of Guam will move over the island and cause urban and small stream flooding in Guam. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area resulting in minor flooding.

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

Showers and Thunderstorms to Continue this Evening; Practice Caution on the Roads

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a short term forecast for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, and their coastal waters.

Through 12 a.m., lines of showers and thunderstorms will pass across the Marianas and adjacent coastal waters. Be alert for occasional lightning, reduced visibilities down to 1 mile near heavier showers and thunderstorms, and minor ponding on roads. Occasional wind gusts to 25 knots are also possible near these showers, especially in the coastal waters.

JIC Release NO. 740 -Twenty-nine of 873 Test Positive for COVID-19; COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Schedule

Results: Twenty-nine New Cases of COVID-19

Twenty-nine (29) new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 873 tests performed on August 2. To date, there have been a total of 8,593 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 143 deaths, 89 cases in active isolation, and 8,361 not in active isolation. The CAR Score is 1.7.

 

Tropical Depression Forms Well Northeast of the Marianas, Poses No Direct Threat

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor all systems in the region, including what is now Tropical Depression 12W. As of 7 p.m., the tropical depression was located 23.5 degrees north latitude and 153.9 degrees east longitude, about 915 miles northeast of Guam. It is moving northwest at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 30 mph.

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam has the following advisories in effect:

high surf advisory will be in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan from 6 a.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet are expected for west facing reefs for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan.
