GHS/OCD Hosts Continuity Planning and Instructional Presentation Training Opportunities

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will host three training opportunities at the GHS/OCD facility in Agana Heights:
  • Tuesday, January 31 – Wednesday, February 1, 2023, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Continuity Planning (L-1301)

    No Tsunami Threat to Marianas from Indonesia Earthquake

    The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.2 that occurred 150 km NW of Tobelo, Indonesia, with a depth of 60.0 km, at 4:06 p.m. (ChST).

    As advised by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, there is no tsunami threat to Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands at this time.

    This will be the final statement issued by GHS/OCD unless additional information is received.

    2023 Service Learning, Youth and Community Preparedness Summit

    The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in collaboration with the Guam Department of Education (GDOE), the Guam Youth Preparedness Program, the Guam Service Learning Committee, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will host the 2023 Service Learning, Youth and Community Preparedness Summit, January 25-27, 2023:
     
    • Wednesday and Thursday, January 25-26, 2023, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the University of Guam, School of Business and Public Administration Bldg. - Summit for educators and community partners

    Report Positive COVID-19 At-home Test Results to DPHSS

    Report positive COVID-19 at-home and over the counter (OTC) test results to the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) via email: dphss.surveillance@dphss.guam.gov. You must report your positive result within 24 hours and provide the following information:

    Flash Flood Warning Now in Effect for Northeastern Guam; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

    The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tiyan Guam has issued a flash flood warning for Northeastern Guam until 5:45 p.m. this afternoon. Thunderstorms are producing heavy rain. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches is possible. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. 

    Some locations that will experience flash flooding include Sinajana, Asan, and Piti. 

    Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

      Flood Advisory Extended; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

      The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 2:45 p.m. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are expected, resulting in minor flooding.

      Some locations that will experience flooding include Dededo, Tamuning, Yigo, Mangilao, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Barrigada, Yona, Hagatna Heights, Andersen AFB, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Asan, and Piti.

      Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

        The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 11:30 a.m. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.75 to 1.5 inches are expected, resulting in minor flooding.

        Some locations that will experience flooding include Dededo, Tamuning, Yigo, Mangilao, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Barrigada, Yona, Hagatna Heights, Andersen AFB, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Asan, Piti, and Santa Rita.

        Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain; Stay Out of the Water

        The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

        Remain out of the water due to life-threatening surf conditions.

        A high surf warning is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 p.m. this evening along north facing reefs. Dangerously large breaking waves of 11 to 15 feet are expected. Breaking waves can sweep people off jetties and docks, and into dangerous seas.

        Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

        The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

        Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

        A high surf advisory remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 p.m. Sunday along north and east facing reefs. Large breaking, dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.
