The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continue to monitor the development of a large monsoonal circulation developing over the area, expected to move across the Marianas this weekend and into the Philippine Sea next week. The monsoonal circulation will keep scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the Marianas from Saturday night into part of next week.
NWS is also monitoring a developing disturbance east of Guam, currently designated as Invest Area 95W. The disturbance is currently expected to move westward over the Marianas sometime the next few days. However, there is still uncertainty as to the exact timing and intensity. At the least, there is the potential the disturbance could strengthen the monsoon over the Marianas bringing rainy weather over Guam and CNMI this weekend into next week.
Up to 8 inches of rain could fall from Saturday night through next Friday. Localized flooding will be possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Residents and visitors are advised to take precautionary actions now before heavy rains occur:
· Clear drainage areas and un-block clogged storm drains in your area to minimize the chance of flooding.
· Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Avoid walking or driving through flood waters. Just 6 inches of moving water can knock you down, and 2 feet of water can sweep your vehicle away
· Be prepared to move immediately to higher ground if there is a chance of flash flooding.
· If floodwaters rise around your car but the water is not moving, abandon the car and move to higher ground. If the water is moving, do not leave the car.
· Avoid camping, parking, or hiking along streams, rivers, and creeks during heavy rainfall. These areas can flood quickly and with little warning.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to practice extreme caution this weekend while traveling in rainy conditions, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles. Be alert for additional advisories from NWS.
