NWS Issues Special Weather Statement: Developing Circulation to Pass in the Vicinity of the Marianas Next Week

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office has issued a Special Weather Statement  for Guam and the Marianas:

A circulation is located about 950 miles east-southeast of Guam and 930 miles east-southeast of Saipan near 9N158E. It is the subject of a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC). This system is currently moving west-northwest around 20 MPH. For more information on the TCFA by the JTWC, see bulletins under WMO header WTPN21 PGTW.

An area of scattered to numerous showers and isolated thunderstorms were located near and north of the center. Model guidance maintains a westward motion to bring the circulation, possibly as a tropical storm, in the vicinity of the Marianas Monday night or Tuesday.

Showers and thunderstorms associated with the system are expected to affect the Marianas Monday night and persist through Tuesday.

Breezy conditions and heavy showers maybe possible at times Monday night and Tuesday. Stronger winds may also cause seas to build Monday and Tuesday.

Because this system is still in its formative stage, there is still uncertainty on the extent and how fast and who strong it will develop.
