NWS Issues Short Term Forecast for Guam; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office Guam has issued a short term forecast, in effect for Guam. Now through 7 p.m., scattered showers will continue to drop locally heavy rain of up to an additional inch across southern Guam, with brief local flooding likely in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.

If driving, be alert for poor visibilities in very heavy rain and watch for local flooding of roads.

The Barcinas Housing area through Merizo village had reported flooding earlier, at times impassable. The Department of Public Works, in collaboration with the Merizo Mayor’s office, worked to clear any debris in the area and create access. Motorists are advised to drive slowly around that area. If rains persist, the area may become impassable, again.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense remind the public to practice caution while traveling in these conditions, allowing enough braking distance between cars.
