Press Release - No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) announced the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) fiscal year (FY) 2024 Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP).

JIC Recovery Release No. 132 - One Year Later, Federal Support for Typhoon Mawar Recovery Reaches More Than $338 Million

It has been one year since Typhoon Mawar caused the island of Guam to announce a major disaster declaration. More than $338 million in federal assistance has been provided to survivors in Guam to include grants from FEMA through the Individual Assistance and Public Assistance Programs, and low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). To-date, FEMA remains in the affected communities, working with local and state officials to provide Public Assistance grants and temporary housing.

Wind Advisory in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued an airport wind advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 7 p.m. this evening. Winds from the east at 15 to 20 knots, with frequent gusts around 25 knots, are expected. Practice caution if traveling in those conditions.

GHS/OCD, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with NBG and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

Press Release - Flood Advisory in Effect; Drive with Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office advised an urban and small stream flood advisory is in effect until 7:15 this morning for central to northern Guam.
 

Heavy rain over central to northern Guam will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.6 and 1.5 inches of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.6 to 1.5 inches are expected.
 

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions through this early morning:
