No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today. 

Winds and Seas Expected to Increase Thursday; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

A wind advisory is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan from 6 a.m. Thursday to 7 p.m. Saturday. Winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph are expected to increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 35 mph by Friday. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and tree limbs could be blown down.
   

High Surf Advisory and High Risk of Rip Currents in Effect; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a high surf advisory in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, in effect until 6 a.m. Monday. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet are expected in the surf zone. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.
