Officials continue to monitor what is now Typhoon Mawar, which has strengthened to typhoon status overnight. As of 5 a.m., Mawar was located 8.5 degrees north latitude and 148.1 degrees east longitude, about 265 miles west-northwest of Chuuk, 410 miles south-southeast of Guam, and 485 miles south-southeast of Saipan. It is moving north-northwest at 8 mph with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero has placed Guam in Condition of Readiness (COR) 2 at 8 p.m. this evening. At COR2, the Government of Guam, with the exception of essential services, will not be operational and will remain closed until COR 4 is announced.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office continues to monitor Invest Area 97W, which continues to organize. As of this morning, 97W was centered about 250 miles west-southwest of Chuuk Lagoon, 200 miles south-southeast of Satawal, near 5 degrees north latitude and 149 degrees east longitude. It is expected to organize over the next 12 to 36 hours, eventually turning north-northwest toward Guam.
