NWS Issues Advisories for the Marianas

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam, has issued the following advisories: A small craft advisory for hazardous seas remains in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday for Tinian and Saipan coastal waters, meaning waves are expected to be dangerous to small craft. Combined seas of 10 to 12 feet today and 8 to 10 feet tonight will produce dangerous conditions for operators of small craft in Tinian and Saipan coastal waters through early Wednesday morning. Mariners planning to operate smaller vessels should avoid sailing in these conditions.

Joint Guam-CNMI Tsunami Communication Exercise

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in close coordination with the National Weather Service – Guam Weather Forecast Office, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization/Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission’s International Tsunami Information Center, will take part in the Pacific Wave 2018 (PacWave18) Exercise, a Joint Guam-Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas (CNMI) Tsunami Communication Exercise, on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.

UPDATED: GHS/OCD Host Personal Protective Equipment - Mission Specific Competencies Training

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the Counterterrorism Operations Support (CTOS) – Center for Radiological/Nuclear Training, will host the “Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Mission Specific Competencies” PER-347 course on Thursday, April 12, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., at the GHS/OCD facility in Agana Heights.

UPDATED: GHS/OCD Host Introduction to Radiological/Nuclear WMD Operations Training and Train-the-Trainer Course

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the Counterterrorism Operations Support (CTOS) – Center for Radiological/Nuclear Training, will host multiple opportunities for the “Introduction to Radiological/Nuclear Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Operations” AWR-140 course at the University of Guam, School of Business & Public Administration Bldg.

Rapid Spread of Wildfires Possible; NWS Advisories in Effect for the Marianas

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam, has the following advisories in effect: A small craft advisory is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan coastal waters, until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Winds of 15 to 25 knots with occasional gusts to 30 knots will continue through this evening, producing wave conditions that are hazardous to small craft. Seas have increased to between 7 and 10 feet and will persist through Wednesday.

Tsunami Preparedness Week 2018

Lieutenant Governor Ray Tenorio will declare the week of April 1 – 7, 2018 as Tsunami Preparedness Week (TPW) to promote tsunami hazard preparedness as an active collaboration among federal, territorial and local emergency management agencies, community leaders and the public. The Tsunami Preparedness Week Proclamation signing is scheduled for Friday, March 30 at 11 a.m., at the Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) in Agana Heights.

GHS/OCD, NBG, and AAFB to Test Tsunami Tone During Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, April 3, starting at 3:15 p.m. GHS/OCD will test the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) from fifteen (15) locations in conjunction with NBG and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV).”
