Earthquake Recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 that struck 169 km S of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 10.0 km, at 9:09 p.m. (ChST).

Fire Weather Watch in Effect through Thursday Afternoon; Outdoor Burning is Not Recommended

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office advised strong daytime winds and dry conditions may lead to rapid fire spread across parts of Guam. A fire weather watch will be in effect for Guam from Tuesday morning through Thursday afternoon. A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur.
   

JIC RELEASE NO. 967 - 317th COVID-19-related Fatality Reported; Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 274 New Cases, 44 Hospitalized; No Symptoms Needed to Test for COVID-19

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 317th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on February 19, 2022. The patient was a 74-year-old male, with no known vaccination, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on February 12.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 that struck 15 km NE of Yigo Village, Guam, with a depth of 101.8 km, at 5:50 p.m. (ChST). 

High Risk of Rip Currents Remains in Effect Through Thursday

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a high risk of rip currents, which remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Thursday afternoon. Dangerous rip currents are expected along east facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.  
   

JIC RELEASE NO. 964 - 316th COVID-19-related Fatality; Mangilao mAb Treatment Center Reopens; DPHSS Rescinds COVID-19 Testing Screening Guide Memorandum; COVID-19 Test Results: 444 New Cases, 49 Hospitalized

Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 316th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Health Services of the Pacific clinic on February 8, 2022. The patient was a 57-year-old female, fully vaccinated without a booster shot, with underlying health conditions who tested positive on January 31, 2022.
