Governor Eddie Baza Calvo has declared Guam in Condition of Readiness 2 and the island continues preparation for Typhoon Yutu.
With this declaration, the Office of the Attorney General of Guam urges residents to watch for price inflation on goods and services purchased for the impending storm.
The price of items such as non-perishable food items, water, gasoline, batteries, propane and lumber must stay at its fixed price now that we are in COR2. It must stay at its fixed price for three days after Guam returns to normal weather conditions - COR4.
Merchants, please be advised that if you are found violating this law, you may owe up to three times the amount of gross profits on the goods you overcharge. Merchants may also owe up to five times the amount of inflated services and rentals.
Price gouging in time of disaster is illegal. Report violations to the Office of the Attorney General. Call 671-475-3324 or email law@guamag.org. To read the full law, go to Title IV of the Guam Code Annotated.
