Two COVID-19-Related Fatalities Reported
The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 105th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) at approximately 11 a.m. on November 21, 2020. The patient was a 59-year-old male with underlying conditions that were further compounded by COVID-19. He was admitted to USNH on October 31, 2020 and tested positive upon admission.
Guam’s 106th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) at approximately 11:56 p.m. on November 21, 2020. The patient was a 51-year-old male with underlying conditions that were further compounded by COVID-19. He was admitted to GRMC on November 21, 2020 and tested positive upon admission.
“To their family and friends, Jeff, Lt. Governor Josh, and I offer our heartfelt condolences and sympathies,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Though our hearts are filled with grief, our resolve must not waver. We have to remember the four ws—wear our masks, watch our distance, wash our hands, and having the will to do these. These are our best tools against this virus.”
Results: 73 of 248 Test Positive for COVID-19
To date, there have been a total of 6,549 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 106 deaths, 2,013 cases in active isolation and 4,430 not in active isolation.
As of November 22, 2020, the COVID Area Risk (CAR) Score is 15.7 and will be recalculated once reports from all participating labs are up to date through the weekend. The CAR Score accounts for the incidence of new cases, how well current testing identifies these cases, and the rate of spread. An ideal CAR Score for Guam would be 5.0 and below. Rapid Engagement Team Completes Community Outreach in NCS & Piga, Dededo
The Department of Public Health and Social Services’ (DPHSS) Rapid Engagement Team (RET), in partnership with the Office of the Governor, Dededo Mayor’s Office, FSM Consulate Office, State Surgeon Cell, Guam Homeland Security, Guam National Guard, University of Guam School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Guam Community College Allied Health Department, Department of Public Works, Guam Fire Department, Guam Police Department, FSM Association of Guam, and other agencies, mobilized in the subdivisions of Piga and NCS, Dededo today.
The RET nurses and support staff visited three apartment complexes in NCS and one subdivision in Piga, to engage all the residents living there and offer free COVID-19 testing as well as other wraparound services, such as supplies and educational material.
The RET Mobile Command Post and Mobile Lab was set up at the Astumbo Community Center next to the Astumbo Fire Station.
The RET mission was completed today in both NCS and Piga, Dededo, and COVID-19 test results will be reflected in tomorrow’s DPHSS Situational Report.
