Governor Eddie Calvo anticipates issuing a Condition of Readiness 1 (COR) for the island at 5 p.m. today, and Rear Adm. Shoshana Chatfield, commander, Joint Region Marianas is placing the island’s military installations in COR 1 at the same time.
This evening, we expect damaging winds of 39-57 mph. It is important to note that any southward shift of the storm’s path will bring stronger winds and more rain.
Latest Location
As of the last weather update from the National Weather Service at 12:43 p.m., Yutu was located 13.6 degrees north latitude and 147.7 degrees east longitude, about 190 miles east of Guam and 170 miles southeast of Tinian and Saipan. Yutu is moving northwest at 12 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph. Damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected as early as 6 p.m. this evening. Higher winds of 46 mph with gusts to 60 mph are expected between midnight through early morning Thursday.
Closest Point of Approach
The current track brings Yutu just south of Tinian early Thursday morning. The closest point of approach to Guam is expected around midnight. Sustained winds of about 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are expected. Additionally, we anticipate between 2 to 4 inches of rain are expected, with more in heavier rainfalls. Seas are dangerous and are expected to remain hazardous through the duration of the storm.
A typhoon warning remains in effect for Rota, Tinian and Saipan, meaning typhoon conditions are expected this evening through late Thursday morning.
A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Guam, Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan. Tropical storm conditions are expected for Guam late this afternoon through Thursday evening.
