The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office extended the high surf advisory for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, now in effect until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet are expected tonight along north facing reefs, resulting in a high risk of rip currents.
Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water.
The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to avoid hazardous surf, especially north facing reefs and beaches. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags, and signs.
