The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office advise the high risk of rip currents remains in effect for east facing reefs of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, through Friday. Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore.
Surf of 7 to 9 feet along east facing shores will result in a high risk of rip currents.
If caught in a rip current, yell for help. Remain calm and stay afloat while waiting for help. If swimming out of a rip current, swim parallel to shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly against a rip current. Rip currents will be life threatening.
The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) advise residents and visitors to practice extreme caution if near the ocean and avoid east facing reefs and beaches, when possible, until rip currents subside. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags, and signs.
