NWS is monitoring a system, Invest 91W, centered well south of Guam near 4 degrees north latitude and 146 degrees east longitude as it continues to move west-northwestward. 91W is expected to consolidate after passing through Palau, turning northwest toward the southern Philippines. 91W will continue to be monitored closely over the next few days as it approaches closer to Yap and Palau. 91W poses no threat to the Marianas.
There is a high risk of rip currents for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Tuesday night for east facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous conditions. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.
A small craft advisory is in effect for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 a.m. Wednesday. East winds of 15 to 25 knots, with gusts to 30 knots, and seas of 7 to 11 feet are expected. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.
