Heavy Rainfall Possible Monday; Dangerous Rip Currents Remain through this Afternoon

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a hydrologic outlook for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. Locally heavy rainfall is possible early Monday morning through Tuesday evening.

NWS advised a slowly developing circulation will approach the Marianas from the east-southeast early next week. Periods of locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds are possible. Current indications are for 3 to 6 inches of rainfall to occur but some of the higher terrain across southern Guam and Rota could see a few higher amounts.

Those living in flood-prone areas should prepare now; clear drainage areas and unblock clogged storm drains in your area to minimize flooding and watch for any additional advisories. Stay up to date with the latest information as the forecast may change in the next few days.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions.

A high risk of rip currents remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through this afternoon along east facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to remain out of the water to avoid dangerous rip currents.
