The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office extended the high surf advisory and high risk of rip currents through Wednesday:
West swell has risen a little and is expected to rise more, renewing the threat of hazardous surf along west facing reefs and beaches.
A high surf advisory is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Along west facing reefs, surf is expected to build to hazardous at 7 to 9 feet by this afternoon, remaining at these heights through Wednesday morning. Avoid venturing near reefs and beaches, especially those facing west. Large breaking waves can knock you down and cause serious injuries.
A high risk of rip currents is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Wednesday afternoon. Avoid venturing near reefs and beaches, especially those facing west. If caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim directly against a rip current. Strong rip currents will be life threatening.
The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to avoid venturing near west facing reefs and beaches until hazardous conditions subside.
