Hagåtña – Guam was recently named as one of the National Governors Association (NGA) seven selected states and territories to work on strategies to enhance nationwide cybersecurity.
Guam submitted an application to be part of the initiative in June of this year, in an effort to take part in such a monumental initiative.
“Cybersecurity is a global threat,” stated Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “While our residents know how to prepare their families and homes for typhoon damaging winds and rains, we must update our readiness plans for threats of the digital age. Guam’s selection as one of seven states and territories to develop national cybersecurity strategies is welcome news and ensures we are given a prominent voice in national security planning.”
“The cyber threat picture is more complex than we have ever seen before,” stated Tim Aguon, Homeland Security Advisor. “We are grateful Guam was considered among the seven and look forward to contributing to the overall effort to ensure not only the island’s cyber pathways are not porous, but the nation as well. As part of the cybersecurity initiative, we remind the community to Stop, Think, Connect.”
