GPA, MRFC Monitor Suspected Phone Scam

GPA, MRFC Monitor Suspected Phone Scam

The Guam Power Authority (GPA) along with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), is monitoring reports from GPA customers receiving calls from an off-island number, requesting for immediate customer payment over the phone or risk disconnection of their power service. Customers have reported receiving calls from different numbers including 888-864-1797 and 406-420-8348, and potentially local numbers as well. Customers reported similar incidents in 2019.

GPA advises the community that GPA employees do not initiate or make phone calls to customers to request for immediate payments over the phone, nor threaten power service disconnection.

The community is reminded to remain vigilant and continue to follow these tips:

  • Never provide payment or personal information to an unverified caller
  • GPA customers can access their account information and make payments at www.PayGPA.com or on the GPWA mobile app.
  • Phone payments are available via GPA’s Pay-By-Phone services at (671) 647-5787

The MRFC is seeking further information involving this fraudulent activity.  If you were a victim of this fraud or received this call from numbers other than those listed above, please provide those details to the MRFC.

Residents are advised to report any suspicious activity or social media posts relating to the subject to the MRFC via email at mrfc@ghs.guam.gov, following the Department of Homeland Security’s campaign, “If You See Something, Say Something.”
