GHS/OCD Hosts Multiple Training Opportunities

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in coordination with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), will host multiple training opportunities at the GHS/OCD facility in Agana Heights. The courses follow:

 

  • Monday, August 5, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Standardized Awareness Training (AWR-160)
    • The one-day course is offered at no cost to eligible participants and encompasses an all-hazards approach to Hazardous Materials (HazMat) incidents, including acts of terrorism where WMD materials may have been used. It provides participants the knowledge to recognize the hazardous material, protect themselves, notify others, and secure the scene.
    • Attendees for the course include fire department, law enforcement, public works, healthcare personnel, and emergency management personnel and partners from the government of Guam, federal, military, private, and non-profit organizations.
  • Tuesday, August 6 – Thursday, August 8, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Operational-Level Response to HazMat/WMD Incidents (PER-212)
    • The two-day course is offered at no cost to eligible participants and focuses on the unique personal protection challenges that responders face during a weapons of mass destruction (WMD)/terrorist incident or a hazardous materials incident.
    • Attendees for the course include fire department, law enforcement, public works, healthcare personnel, and emergency management personnel and partners from the government of Guam, federal, military, private, and non-profit organizations.
  • Friday, August 9, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Personal Protective Measures for Biological Events (PER-320)
    • The one-day course is offered at no cost to eligible participants and focuses on the challenges faced by first responders and clinical health care professionals in pre-hospital and hospital environments as they deal with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) needs and potential contamination issues while dealing with highly infectious diseases.
    • Attendees for the course include fire department, law enforcement, public works, healthcare personnel, and emergency management personnel and partners from the government of Guam, federal, military, private, and non-profit organizations.
